Trois partenaires français et deux partenaires associés portent le Projet Sea For Society en France.

NAUSICAA, Centre National de la Mer à Boulogne sur Mer, l’UICN et l’IFREMER lance la consultation Sea For Society en France, le mardi 14 mai 2013 avec une soirée de rencontres et de débats réunissant plusieurs acteurs du monde maritime français. Suivra une première séance de consultation des jeunes sur le thème « Energie et Océan » le mercredi 15 mai 2013. Ensuite, deux jours au mois de septembre seront consacrés à la consultation des experts (stakeholders) sur le thème « Energie et Océan ».

La séance de consultation des citoyens, sur le thème « Santé et Océan », aura lieu du lundi 24 au mercredi 26 juin 2013. Au cours de cette phase du projet, NAUSICAA, Centre National de la Mer à Boulogne sur Mer, l’UICN et l’IFREMER demanderont à chacun des participants quel avenir imaginer pour la Mer ?

NAUSICAA, Centre National de la Mer, est bien plus qu’un simple aquarium. NAUSICAA est un Centre de découverte de l’environnement marin unique en son genre, à la fois ludique, pédagogique et scientifique, essentiellement axé sur les relations entre l’Homme et la Mer. Aquariums géants, explorations sous-marines, technologies de pointe dans la magie d’une mise en scène grandiose : tout est là pour rêver. Explications précises, médiathèque spécialisée, films, expositions temporaires, conférences, programmes pédagogiques, animations en exposition : tout est également là pour comprendre et apprendre. En effet, la mission du Centre est avant tout de sensibiliser le public à une meilleure gestion des océans et de leurs ressources… NAUSICAA a reçu, en 1999, le label de “Centre d’Excellence” par la Commission Océanographique Intergouvernementale de l’UNESCO pour ses actions de sensibilisation.

Ifremer is a public body created in 1984, and is the only French research organisation with an entirely maritime purpose.

It operates under the joint auspices of the three Ministries of:
- Higher Education and Research,
- Agriculture and Fisheries,
- Ecology, Sustainable development and Infrastructure.
Being involved in all the marine science and technology fields, Ifremer has the capability of solving different problems with an integrated approach. Ifremer’s scope of actions can be divided into four main areas, each of them including different topics as described hereunder:
1. Understanding, assessing, developing and managing the ocean resources (knowledge and exploration of the deep sea; contribution to the exploitation of offshore oil; understanding ocean circulation (in relation with the global change); sustainable management of fishery resources;
optimisation and development of aquaculture production).
2. Improving knowledge, protection and restoration methods for marine environment.
3. Production and management of equipment of national interest.
4. Helping the socio-economic development of the maritime world.
